Dance Alive – Nov 2018

Dance is the purposefully selected sequence of movement that tells a story that only the body can. Each move is a word in the book, be it a two-step or an arabesque. From the 30th of November to the 1st of December at 20:00pm Figure of 8 Dance Collective is putting on Dance Alive, their annual studio concert including a variety of dance companies.

Figure of 8 Dance Collective was started by esteemed dancers and choreographers Shaun Oelf and Grant van Ster. The two are highly sought after performers whose resume’s include participation in Cape Towns Infecting the City, performance at the Fleur Du Cap Awards and most notably their show Grant and Shaun: A Double Bill where they performed two shows, Architecture of Tears by Ananda Fuchs and A Most Honest Man by Mdu Kweyama. Figure of 8 focuses on high quality, cutting edge, thought provoking, and beautiful contemporary dance as well as the the development and presentation of innovative work.

Ballet, contemporary and hip hop are some of the genres of performance we will be seeing on the night performed by a cast of incredible performers set to light up the stage. One of which is David Januarie, X-Factor South Africa winner, dance partners Jannick Schlewing Arendse and Fredlyn Mentoor, who embrace different cultures through dance, Jacqui Pells School of Ballet and self-taught dancer and choreographer Chester Martinez amoung others.

Come and celebrate the beautiful art of dance with us!
