‘LOCKED’ by Open Heart Studio
Xolani Sivunda, Lonwabo Baliso and Mzimasi Fumo
To create an art center that preserves and promotes traditional and contemporary art To create a space that will educate and empower up and coming artists To use art as therapy and as a means to take youth away from drugs and criminal activities
To create a meeting center in the community for creative individuals To showcase local creative talent and to stimulate sustainable economic development through art sales by participants to visitors to our studio
Artists Xolani Sivunda of Capetown South Africa, and Michele Knecht of Atascadero, California, USA met and became friends, in an international online mosaic group. Their mutual passion for art and desire to be of service in the world, has led to the creation of Open Heart Studios, a Community Art Center in Capetown, South Africa. In the Spring of 2020, during the upheaval of the pandemic, they started working together to bring their vision into reality.
With the help of our sponsors; DALA Paints, Lush, and Juma Art Tours, we are serving the communities of Mfuleni and Khayelitsha, teaching art classes. We will soon be adding a collaboration with The Imibala Trust, teaching mosaic to their students.
We would welcome new sponsors, donations and collaboration with others serving through art, as well as exhibition opportunities.
