ARTIST STATEMENT
My art explores identity and the ways urbanisation and industrialisation shape us. As technology surges forward and redefines what it means to be human, I reflect on my cityscapes—skyscrapers extending deep into the surface, hinting at our dual nature, the yin-yang of existence—and on the cute robots I bring to life in my artworks.
I wonder whether our increasing desire for profit and power will lead us into a future where humans and robots coexist harmoniously, or whether we are heading toward a dystopian wasteland, inhabited by machines with minds of their own.
I approach these topics with both dark humour and hopeful optimism, as I believe art elevates us and embodies the essence of humanity. As long as we create, we are.
ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Active as an artist since 2008, I have held solo exhibitions at Gerard Sekoto Gallery (Alliance Française Johannesburg), Daville Bailey Gallery, and others, as well as participated in group exhibitions in Johannesburg and Cape Town. My work spans painting on canvas, printmaking, linocut, collage, and photography.
Since 2021, I have also begun listing my digital art as NFTs, while integrating my music as a singer-songwriter and animation into my practice—offering new and exciting work for the emerging world of digital collectors.
My studies in philosophy and English literature shaped me into a lover of words, always searching for unlikely connections and hidden meanings. This curiosity continues to drive my creative practice and fuels my obsession with layering concepts and imagery into each piece.
