ARTIST STATEMENT - February 2026

In the soft folds of fabric, motion reveals itself as something both elemental and deeply personal.
I was drawn to the way silk responds to air and touch — how it ripples and folds, how it gathers into wave-like forms, never still. This is the moment I was trying to capture: like water in motion, with its shifting reflections and fluid, changing surface.

Or like the aftermath of moments of passion — what remains once movement has calmed. Like sateen sheets after bodies have shifted and rested, the fabric carries the imprint of closeness: creases, tension, release.

Through layered forms and flowing lines, I sought to capture that charged stillness — a moment suspended between motion and rest, where energy lingers in the folds.

These pieces explore the balance between softness and strength, stillness and motion.
They invite the viewer to slow down, observe closely, and sense the traces left behind by moments of touch and connection.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Dessie begins every piece with a sense of fear—the blank canvas eagerly waiting for her. She admits: “Unsure… or is it that I am insecure?” Yet, eventually, it all comes together. The puzzle pieces click, an image forms in her mind’s eye, and she reaches for her colours, her airbrush, her brushes, and her favourite acrylic markers. One layer after another, she paints—until suddenly, the work is complete.
Like waking from a dreamlike meditation, Dessie often looks at a finished piece and feels as though someone else has created it—another version of herself, more playful and extroverted.

Her preferred palette is bright, vivid, and cheerful, while she favours the contrasting textures of glossy resin surfaces. Her inclination toward the bold and beautiful is balanced by her early love of mathematics and geometry, which inspires her use of black-and-white detailed work. At the same time, she is drawn to matte, cracked, distressed backgrounds, fusing these contrasting elements into her distinctive visual language.

As a child, Dessie loved cartoons, a passion that grew into an enduring appreciation for comics and manga. The colourful characters that once brought her joy continue to influence her work today.
Ultimately, Dessie wants her art to spark joy in those who encounter it. At the same time, she infuses her pieces with an element of sensuality—a touch of temptation—because she believes life is incomplete without love.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

As a child, I was captivated by cartoons, a fascination that grew into a deep love for comics and manga animations as I got older. Those colorful characters brought so much joy into my life, and their influence continues to shape my art today. My goal is to create pieces that evoke the same sense of happiness and delight every time someone looks at them.

And yes, I believe art should have just a hint of sex appeal—a touch of temptation—because life wouldn’t be complete without love.
