ARTIST STATEMENT
Football is a universal language that can traverse any barrier, and when used with intention and purpose, can be a powerful and effective tool for social change and community empowerment. In Hout Bay, we use football to unite, uplift, and inspire our community. To inspire our players to be the very best that they can be, both on and off the field. Through this exhibition, we celebrate our brothers and sisters who have trailblazed the pathway we strive to follow. True Icons who saw football’s greatest potential.
The Football For Good project is used to raise funds in support of HBUFC and its many projects and beneficiaries. The goal of the artwork is to showcase legendary footballers who have used the power of the beautiful game for the greater good. We hope to inspire our players to follow in their footsteps. Operating as a charity, our reach grows far beyond the field – success for us is not just about trophies. It is about the number of jobs that we can create, the number of community programmes we can run, and the number of children we can feed… It’s about a community of well-rounded moral citizens giving back and continuing to build a better future together.
