Thembela Mpambani

ARTIST STATEMENT

In Flux My work embodies the essence of transformation—both visible and invisible—reflecting the ever-changing nature of the human condition. In Flux is a journey through states of being that are never static, a meditation on how identity, emotion, and culture shift within us and around us. Through painting and mixed media, I capture these fleeting moments where the boundaries between tradition and modernity, stability and chaos, blur and reshape.

The process begins with capturing the rawness of human experience. I find inspiration in moments of transition: the instant a gesture shifts, the point when an emotion transforms, or the way cultural identity evolves over time. My approach to abstract portraiture deconstructs these moments, creating layered compositions that reflect our inner complexities—an interplay of color, form, and texture.

In Flux is about embracing the undefined, the ungraspable essence of change. My art seeks to create a visual dialogue that invites the viewer to witness the beauty of impermanence, find meaning in movement, and connect with the fragile yet resilient nature of what it means to be human.
