David Nixon CBE's Dracula: Pop-Up Performance at First Thursday

This First Thursday, Cape Town City Ballet brings the Gothic world of David Nixon CBE's Dracula to Youngblood Africa for two pop-up performances on Thursday, 1 October 2026, at 18:30 and 19:30.

Inspired by Bram Stoker's classic tale, Nixon's Dracula is a story of obsession, desire and supernatural power. The production is known for its cinematic scale and dark, atmospheric storytelling. Its choreography is physically demanding and pushes the dancers to dramatic extremes. Nixon also oversaw the set, staging and costume design himself, so every visual detail reflects his vision.

The full ballet is set to a recorded score of music by Alfred Schnittke, Arvo Pärt, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Michael Daugherty. Those composers give the work its brooding intensity.

Come early to enjoy the Tailored Identities exhibition, then stay for a taste of one of South Africa's most talked-about ballets, right in the heart of Bree Street.

Want the full production? Dracula returns to the Artscape stage from 28 October to 1 November 2026, just in time for Halloween weekend. Book through Webtickets.
