The eight edition of the radical Purpur Festival returns to the Youngblood Gallery, Cape Town with the theme NOTHING IS REAL. The Purpur Ensemble returns to play works by Fluxus artists George Maciunas, Henning Christiansen, LaMonte Young; music by Christian Wolff and Cornelius Cardew; Alvin Lucier's take on the Beatles' Strawberry Fields = Nothing is Real for piano and teapot; Ulrich Suesse's Music Plus One for improvising ensemble and CD; James Tenney postcard piece for solo tam tam and Peter Garland's Three Strange Angels. New works by Pierre-Henri Wicomb, Michael Blake and Christina Viola Oorebeek, with live electronics and video. Plus the launch of an exciting new album on the Africa Open label - The Bow Project 2: Bowscapes (in memory of Jürgen Bräuninger).
